Bunaco's exquisite bowls and trays come from Aomori, Japan where the world heritage Shirakami Beech Mountains are located. They are made by taking paper thin (1/25") sheets of beech wood cut into 1/5" or 4/5" wide strips and coiling them into a circle. Pushing the center of the coiled circle forms a bowl shape. Using different shaped bases a variety of unique bowl shapes can be formed. Because of the way the wood is built up, it is resistant to drying and cracking. BUNACO Aomori, Japan.
